Out of Touch

That's Texas!

One of Governor Perry's supporters came up with this song and video. Check it out:

A vote for Bill White is a vote to reward Barack Obama's Chicago-style politics, and make his overreaching liberal agenda easier to pass. A vote for Bill White is a vote for fiscal mismanagement and someone who is out of touch with Texans.

Get to the polls today, and vote for Texas Values, and Proven Leadership. Vote for Rick Perry!

Houston Voter Speaks His Mind

Of the many videos made out there by supporters, this is one of the better ones:

A vote for Bill White is a vote to reward Barack Obama's Chicago-style politics, and make his overreaching liberal agenda easier to pass. A vote for Bill White is a vote for fiscal mismanagement and someone who is out of touch with Texans.

Get to the polls today, and vote for Texas Values, and Proven Leadership. Vote for Rick Perry!

Video: “Bill White’s Chicago Way”

October 21, 2010

When liberal trial lawyer Bill White ran for Houston mayor in 2003, he was asked, “Which city in the world could best serve as a role model for a future Houston?”

Bill White answer? “Chicago.” [1]

The video “Bill White’s Chicago Way” is available at www.YouTube.com:

“Liberal Bill White’s admiration for the Chicago Way was evident when he steered a contract following Hurricane Rita to a company he had a financial relationship with, then profited from a private investment in the company,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “While Houston mayor, Bill White met with two other followers of the Chicago Way, then-Senator Barack Obama and his future chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.”

The Associated Press has reported, “Barack Obama, before he became president, leads a list of luminaries who met with White in Houston during his six years leading the nation's fourth largest city, according to mayoral calendar records provided to The Associated Press by Perry's campaign. Former President Bill Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden and former Democratic presidential candidates Bill Richardson, John Edwards and Wesley Clark also made the list. There is a phone call with Caroline Kennedy and a meeting with Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel, who later became White House chief of staff.” [2]

Bill White Can’t Even Rate President Obama’s Job Performance

October 20, 2010

Liberal trial lawyer Bill White could not even rate President Barack Obama’s job performance on Tuesday, delivering a “windy, Harvard-lawyer explanation” rather than denounce policies that would be harmful to Texas.

From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: “But in a moment that might be a metaphor for White's campaign, viewers also saw him called out by moderator Christy Hoppe of The Dallas Morning News for turning a simple ‘lightning round’ question into a windy, Harvard-lawyer explanation of why he wouldn't rate President Barack Obama on a scale of 1 to 10. ‘Mayor White,’ Hoppe interrupted, ‘this is a lightning round.’” (SOURCE: “White may be lucky debate wasn't better watched,” Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 10/20/10, http://www.star-telegram.com/2010/10/19/2560594/white-may-be-lucky-debat...)

“It’s not surprising that Bill White has chosen not to criticize President Obama considering he shares his liberal values and supports his policies,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “Bill White met with then-Senator Obama in the Houston’s mayor’s office, advised his campaign on energy policy, wrote a memo explaining how to sell cap-and-trade to the public, traveled to the White House to promote the $787 billion stimulus, and said he supported the goals of Obamacare. Bill White’s support for President Obama and his liberal policies is completely out of touch with Texas values.”

Flashback: Bill White Refuses To Rule Out Raising Taxes

October 15, 2010

When liberal trial lawyer Bill White sits down with the Texas Tribune’s Evan Smith for an interview this afternoon, it will be the second time he has done so during this campaign.

His first Texas Tribune interview, on March 9, 2010, was a disaster.

Evan Smith asked, “Will you commit to this audience that as governor you would not raise taxes?”

Bill White responded, “No, I mean, I won’t.”

Video of this exchange is available online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVtz3s1pliM.

“Voters have a clear choice between Gov. Perry, who opposes new taxes and whose fiscal responsibility has made Texas’ economy the envy of the nation, and Bill White, who refuses to rule out raising taxes and whose ‘unbusinesslike approach’ and overspending left behind a fiscal crisis for his successor as Houston mayor,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner.

One day after Bill White’s first Texas Tribune interview, Houston Mayor Annise Parker said, “For years now, we have spent more money than we have taken in. You can't spend more than you earn. It is a very unbusinesslike approach to running things.” (“City's budget woes may mean furloughs, layoffs,” Houston Chronicle, 3/11/10, http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6907348.html)

ICYMI: “Houston Police Endorse Gov. Rick Perry Over Bill White”

October 8, 2010

Following the Houston Police Officers' Union endorsement of Gov. Rick Perry over liberal trial lawyer Bill White, KPRC-TV Houston reporter Mary Benton detailed the significance of this endorsement in her report, “Houston Police Endorse Gov. Rick Perry Over Bill White.” (Report below and available online at http://2onthebeat.wordpress.com/2010/10/07/houston-police-endorse-gov-ri...)

“For years, liberal Bill White refused to listen to police officers who begged him to lift Houston’s sanctuary city policy,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “Bill White’s support for sanctuary cities is clearly out of touch with the beliefs and values of law enforcement and the people of Texas.”

“Houston Police Endorse Gov. Rick Perry Over Bill White”
By Mary Benton, KPRC-TV Houston

Sanctuary City. Police Officer Shortage. A Police Chief from outside of HPD.

Leaders of the Houston Police Officers’ Union said those were the main issues that cost former Houston Mayor Bill White the organization’s endorsement.

On Thursday, HPOU announced that it would back Republican Incumbent Governor Rick Perry.

As he accepted the groups’ endorsement, Perry was surrounded by several HPD officers, including Joslyn Johnson. Her husband, Officer Rodney Johnson, was killed by an illegal immigrant during a traffic stop.

Governor Perry vowed to ask the legislature in January to take “emergency action to abolish sanctuary cities.”

Losing the endorsement of the 5-thousand member organization is a blow to White’s campaign.

He was also snubbed by the Houston Professional Firefighters Association.

All candidates want to appear strong on public safety issues.

Some voters around the state will also wonder why Houston’s former Mayor isn’t being endorsed by police officers and firefighters who served under him.

Bizarre Bill

October 6, 2010

Liberal trial lawyer Bill White yesterday said it is “bizarre” to expect him to release his taxes for his years in public service. (0:45 mark of video available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsur_8PZHhE)

On Aug. 24, Bill White admitted, “It is the public's business how I made money during the years I was Deputy Secretary of Energy.” (Video available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj22wO912Lg&hd=1)

Bill White has also admitted that he reported no taxable income in 1995 and even received a $24,200 refund despite earning an annual salary of $133,600 while serving in the Clinton Administration until August. [1]

“It’s just like a liberal trial lawyer to think it’s bizarre for the public to want to know how he made millions of dollars during his years in public service and why he didn’t pay taxes in 1995,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “Bill White’s comments continue to demonstrate a candidate who is completely out of touch with the working men and women of Texas. Bill White should come clean with the people of Texas and release his tax returns for his years in public service.”

Bill White has a long and suspicious history of hiding the contents of his income tax returns.

On March 8, Bill White refused to release his income taxes when asked by the Houston Chronicle. [2]

On March 17, the Houston Chronicle reported that Bill White earned $2.6 million while mayor serving on the board of BJ Services, a company under investigation by Congress for lying to the EPA. [3]

On March 19, Bill White released only his 2009 tax returns, revealing he earned $83,000 from his former employer, the Wedge Group, in 2009. [4]

On June 8, when Bill White released his 2004-2008 tax returns, he admitted to the Associated Press that he earned more than $500,000 after investing in BTEC, a company he steered a taxpayer contract to following Hurricane Rita. The Wedge Group, which paid Bill White $81,854.65 in 2005, was the majority owner of BTEC at the time. [5, 6, 7]

On July 18, the Dallas Morning News reported that Bill White admitted he made millions from Frontera Resources, the company he formed to exploit his Washington contacts and do business in the Middle East. In 2003, Bill White said he hadn’t made a penny from Frontera. [8]

On July 19, the Associated Press reported that Bill White made profits from Frontera as far back as 1997. [9]

Two Million Reasons Why Bill White Was Appointed Deputy Secretary Of Energy

October 5, 2010

Liberal trial lawyer Bill White’s entire political career has been defined by trading political contributions for favors. In 1993, Bill White was appointed Deputy Secretary of Energy after raising more than $2 million for Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign.

On April 4, 1993, the Houston Chronicle published an article titled, “Clinton's selections are signal he's tipping his hat to friends.”

The article began: “It helps to have connections. Houston lawyer Bill White is the White House's latest pick for deputy secretary of the Energy Department. White knows a lot about oil and gas law. But so do a lot of other people around here. What distinguishes White for this job is his political resume. He raised more than $2 million in Texas for the Clinton campaign and is a partner at the Susman Godfrey law firm, which worked with Clinton on a case in the 1970s, when Clinton was Arkansas attorney general.”

“Liberal trial lawyer Bill White would have never been appointed Deputy Secretary of Energy had he not raised more than $2 million for Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “Bill Clinton must have taught Bill White well, because when it was Bill White’s turn to run for office, he rewarded his own donors with appointments.”

One hundred percent of Bill White’s Houston Metro board appointments were political donors to his campaigns. On Jan. 23, 2004, Bill White appointed one of his largest campaign donors, real estate developer David Wolff, to serve as Metro chairman. David Wolff and his wife contributed $15,000 to Bill White’s 2003 mayoral campaign, and since then have contributed an additional $35,000 to Bill White’s campaigns. Of the five Metro appointments Bill White made on Jan. 24, 2004, four had previously contributed to his mayoral campaign, and the fifth contributed to his campaign less than two months after receiving the appointment.

Bill White Again Calls For More Taxes

September 24, 2010

Liberal trial lawyer Bill White has once again expressed his support for more taxes. With his latest proposal, families across Texas could see increased taxes on everything from dental and physician services to prescription medicine.

From WFAA-TV in Dallas:

Regarding whether the sales tax should be broadened to certain products and services now exempt, Perry and White split; White says, "Maybe."

"If there is a loophole where we have some good bipartisan consensus that somebody got a special privilege where you are not raising the tax rate, those are the type of things — loopholes — what you always want to look at," the former Houston mayor said.

But Perry is unequivocal about not revising the existing sales tax structure.

"During a recession, putting an additional burden on those small businesses, those families, those job creators out there is the worst thing that you can do," he said.

(SOURCE: WFAA-TV, 9/23/10, http://www.wfaa.com/news/politics/White-Perry-agree-on-no-sales-tax-hike...)

“Which one of the more than 100 items exempt from the sales tax would Bill White want to make Texans pay tax on?” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “Liberal Bill White’s support for more taxes is the one policy idea he has conveyed during this campaign, and it is a terrible one. Bill White’s latest comments send a message to Texans that if he is elected governor, you better hold on to your wallets.”

Bill White Unqualified To Be Governor, Says Democrat Running For Texas Supreme Court

September 23, 2010

In a recent article in the Austin American-Statesman titled, “Grave doubts about Dems’ strategy from one of their own,” Democrat Jim Sharp criticizes liberal trial lawyer Bill White’s lack of experience.

Sharp, a Houston state appellate judge running for Texas Supreme Court, said he “does not believe that White’s service as Houston's mayor necessarily prepares him to be governor.”

“I mean, to sit in the Governor’s Mansion, you really ought to have ... either served in the Legislature, either body, or held some sort of statewide executive office or something. But just to go from a mayor to the Governor's Mansion, I don’t know,” Sharp said. (SOURCE: “Grave doubts about Dems' strategy from one of their own,” Austin American-Statesman, 9/19/10, http://www.statesman.com/opinion/grave-doubts-about-dems-strategy-from-o...)

“As liberal trial lawyer Bill White continues to run from his record, even Democrats are now admitting his campaign is failing,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “Bill White’s fiscally irresponsible management style has been criticized as ‘unbusinesslike’ by his successor as Houston mayor, and though he touts his business record, he suspiciously refuses to release his taxes, preventing Texans from learning the truth about how he profited while serving the public and how he avoided paying taxes in 1995.”
